Travel Writer · Pune
Pune-based travel writer chasing forgotten railway routes and crumbling forts across the Deccan, with a soft spot for slow trains and stepwells.
Rohan Deshpande is a freelance journalist based in Pune who has spent over the last decade documenting India's heritage corridors, narrow-gauge railways and lesser-known Maratha forts. His long-form essays and travel features have appeared in Outlook Traveller and Conde Nast Traveller India, alongside city-focused pieces for Mint Lounge. He grew up taking summer trips on the Deccan Queen and now leads occasional walking tours through Pune's wadas and British-era cantonments. When he is not on assignment, Rohan is usually digging through district gazetteers, photographing milestones along old trunk roads or coaxing a recommendation out of a chai stall owner near some half-forgotten junction station.
